They say time flies when you're having fun.
As I sit here looking at the screen of my battered, but beloved laptop, and I can’t help but wonder at the year that has just passed... Like all stories, this one starts off exactly (well, almost) a year ago. It was the 19th of May as I published my first piece in what was supposed to be an ‘outlet’ for my thoughts... Now, a year and exactly 100 posts later, I marvel as I see things in retrospect…
I look back at how it all began and I ask myself: at which point did we cross the bridge between the dream and reality? The expected from the result? How shall I name this experience... a revelation? A new perspective on life? Or a path broader than I expected? To tell you the truth, it's been that and more...
You see, I had this vision. I dreamt of a place where reality and magic intertwined, where theory and practice molded as one and where ideas came to life. There is so much beauty that revolves around the world of brands. To see something come to life as a being- with a beating heart and a pounding pulse- is something that bewilders me to the point of pure fascination. The mere thought of being able to share that passion and feeling on a regular basis and being reciprocated is something that I shall always be thankful for.
Just like the first post, I'd like to dedicate this to everyone for their tremendous support, especially those who have been the backbone of this first year:
To my family, for their continuous example of hard work and dedication. Thanks for showing me value of doing things with passion and perseverance... you're my inspiration.
To Ivan, Edgar, Rossina and Paola- your undying support and encouragement from day one could only be surpassed by the immense gratitude I feel towards you. You guys rock.
To the folks of TBWA \ Dominicana, especially Che, Katy, Ernesto and Cape, for feeding me thoughts and fostering the magic of advertising in me.
To Ysel & Ale, Ernesto L., Rafael Tomás, and Arsen. Thanks for all your input through this past year... you are awesome!
And to everyone else who has made this an awesome journey... gracias. I can't wait for what lies ahead.
They say that with each piece, a writer leaves a bit of himself behind. His character, his thoughts, his wisdom... all imprinted with each word. But instead of leaving something behind, I can't help but feel as if I've gained it all.
Here went 100 stories. 100 lessons. 100 sleepless night. 100 dreams fulfilled. 100 memories.
I guess the beauty of life, then, is that even though the days fly by, the years feel long and full.
Thanks everyone. You have made me very happy.
To infinity, and beyond... Love you all.
